Certifiable Parents
On Friday, February 3 2023, we received our official Foster/Adoption license from the Great State of Texas. It has been a long time coming as many of you may or may not know. Steve & I began this journey after losing our only child in 2019.
Becoming “certified” is a very long process which begins by first, choosing an agency to work with. We chose a local agency that had ties to the Lutheran Church and had worked with a couple we knew. Their successful adoptions, not once but twice, gave us a sense that this was the agency for us.
Once we contacted them the mountain of paperwork began to flow, we were completing forms and submitting documents as as fast as we could. Naively believeing that the sooner we completed the paperwork we would be ready.
Over the next twelve months we were in a back and forth exchange with the agency of , “you sent us this, but did you send us that” and “oh, that’s expired so you need a new one.” It sounds so trivial but when I tell you the State of Texas was in every nook & cranny of our lives, believe it.
Finally, we have been certified for placement to begin and are awaiting the next phase of our journey.
As ASisterforStephanie continues to strive for acceptance & healing, may the child/children rest assured that their new parents are indeed “certifiable.”

A Sister For Stephanie
It has been a long, soul crushing journey to get to this moment.
Let me give you a little background so you will understand the many highs and lows that we have endured through this process.
It all began in 2019 when we lost our only child, our only daughter, Stephanie. We had been catapulted into the dark abyss of “child loss.”
In this darkness there is no road map, no street sign, no compass, no life line. The truth is, even if these things had been there we did not have the strength or desire to notice them. We barely had the will to breathe because survival was not a priority during this time. It would be several years, countless hours of therapy, numerous medications and wrestling in a spiritual mudpit with the Almighty!!
